30 weeks & Homeward Bound

This week we have reached the 30 week mark!  Woohoo!  They came in this morning to measure the boys..."A" is 3lbs 3oz (45th percentile) and "B" is 3lbs 6oz (54th percentile).  Very good sized babies for twins!  And I measured 563lbs 7oz.  Ha!  Everything is looking great with the babies...they seem to be thriving and healthy!  I don't want to complain seeing as we are so thankful to be at this point, but I sure am beginning to feel uncomfortable...just a general achiness.  If you add the weight of the two babies, they are about what Kate weighed when I delivered her...goodness.  Carrying twins is so different from carrying just one.  My high-risk doctor--who has had twins herself--likes to remind me (almost every day) that human beings were not designed to carry litters.  That's certainly one way to put it.
My OB doctor will be back from vacation on Monday so that is the day we are shooting for for heading home.  I am nervous about going home, but so much more comfortable now that we are at this point.  We still obviously would like to gain a few more weeks (34 would be great!), but they would more than likely do great if they were born now.
Just thought I'd record real quick some things I've been doing during this crazy long hospital stay.  Everyone asks me, "Have you lost your mind yet?"  It really has not been that bad (aside from not being home with Kate & Joe- by far the WORST part).  The nurses have all been so wonderful!  They have begun to feel like old friends...we talk about anything and everything.  That has certainly helped make this situation brighter.  Everyone has been so kind.  I have done LOTS of reading...some mindless, silly, girly books as well as LOTS of twin books.  I have also been learning how to "coupon" using online tutorials (along with the help of my coupon-guru friend Emily), how to make my own baby food (it's really not that hard at all!), and how to make my own laundry detergent!  Yes, I have obviously had an awful lot of time on my hands.  Thank goodness for the internet.  I'm looking forward to getting home and putting my new "skills" to work...if I can ever find the time to do any of these things after these babies get here, of course, which is obviously questionable.
And....we have officially decided names.  "A" is Matthew Hunter (Hunter being Joe's middle name) and "B" is John Wallace.  They'll be Matthew and John.
Like every woman who has ever given birth, I am beginning to feel a lot of anxiety over this delivery.  Matthew is head-down, but John is breech, so I will be more than likely looking at a C-section.  Which is really ok with me, seeing as my high risk doctor said that is probably the safest way to deliver these boys due to the kind of twins that they are (identical, sharing a placenta).  Please keep us in your prayers as this day approaches!  We are really getting nervous.

  4. How did I miss the identical part?!?!?! WOW... even more exciting. You get to "tag" them with a color, or painted toe nail to tell them apart! :) I've heard others with twins say they have done this. Looks like you'll need some monogrammed onesies for sure! :) Well we already know that you and Joe make beautiful babies (Kate) so I know that they will be beautiful!!!
