Ok, today we went to the doctor for our 16 week check-up. We had a great appointment. Everything looks really great with both babies! Definitely still in 2 separate sacks, which we have since learned is a GOOD thing. It lessens the likelihood for complications like TTTS (twin to twin transfusion syndrome), cords getting intertwined, and also actually increases the chances for delivering normally rather than via C-section. We have come a long way from knowing absolutely NOTHING about twins! We have also learned that the only way to determine if twins are fraternal or identical before delivery is if they are two separate sexes. In other words, if they are boy and girl, they are fraternal. However, if they are the same sex, the only way to determine whether or not they are identical is by a DNA cheek swab test after they are born. This can also be determined via amniocentesis prior to delivery, but obviously one would never elect to undergo this procedure just to determine identical or fraternal.
So...looks like we are going to have to wait until after they are born to determine fraternal or identical :) Yes, these babies are the same sex. And we are having....drumroll....two little BOYS!!!!!!!!!
Baby "B" cooperated nicely today!
Baby "A" was a little more shy
Joe had pretty much convinced himself that we were most definitely having two little girls. I, on the other hand, had no inkling whatsoever. Everyone else seemed to be thinking pink as well. I guess it's because we already have Kate and pretty much everything we own is, ironically, "girl." We are truly thrilled (especially Joe...TWO new hunting and fishing buddies?! Mom will be lucky to ever get to hang out with these three!) and so excited about these two little guys. It was quite fun to see Joe's face light up when she said "boy." We really and truly did not care what these babies turned out to be. We had talked about the different scenarios a few times, and funny thing is, I jokingly told Joe one night that the only scenario that would intimidate me a little would be two boys, simply because all I know is little girl. And of course, two boys it is. And I am not surprised. Everything about this entire experience has pretty much been unexpected and shocking.
I must add...one of the twins, she is definitely 100% sure is boy. The other, not quite so certain. Although she is pretty sure. We have to keep in mind I am only 16 weeks along, so it is a little early to tell still. Next appointment should confirm everything, but she says she is pretty confident, and I trust her considering she looks at these things all day long.
Everything else looks great. Both Margaret and my doctor seem pleased with everything. I must say, I haven't felt all that great with this pregnancy. It has most definitely been different. The nausea has lasted longer than it did with my first pregnancy, and I am experiencing more fatigue now, rather than in the very beginning like I did with Kate. I do hate to complain...some women have it so much worse than this! It really hasn't been too bad, but just overall "blah."
We plan to close on our house in two weeks, then we will begin construction on our new home immediately after. Our plans are just about ready, so we are sitting on go! Now, what shade of blue for those nursery walls.... :)

CONGRATS!!!! So exciting! Boys are fun! :)
